Algebraic Thinking Activity
Teacher Lesson Plan
Your group will be working through an activity in Glencoe's Interactive Mathematics text (Units 7-12, p. 16) called "Fruit for Thought." There are some properties of numbers that will help you find the solution to this activity. Most helpful are:
- The Additive Identity which simply said is:
If you add 0 to any number you will still have that same number as your answer.
- The Multiplicative Identity which simply said is:
If you multiply any number by 1 you will still have that same number as your answer.
There are other properties of numbers that you may find useful to know as you study mathematics including:
Here are some pages from the Math Forum that students might find interesting to read on the different properties.
- Commutative Property for Addition
- Commutative Property for Multiplication
- Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition
