I want to bake blackberry cobbler. The recipe calls for a 9″ pie pan. All I have are rectangular ones.
I notice that the size of the pie plan is described as a 9″ pan. I have seen this in recipe books too. I was struck by the fact that this seems to be some naming convention that cooks must know, that the 9″ is the diameter of the circular pan.
I’ve wondered… is it 9 inches from the top of the edge, or the bottom circle of the pie dish?… or is it trivial…?
