I would start off by calculating the total amount of tips that the 3 people made that week to figure out how to divide them equally. I would be most interested in whether or not Ethan was pulling his weight. Is it beneficial to Ethan that they split the tips? Is he making more because Fran and Gloria are both making more money? This is definitely something I’d be interested in.
I notice that the scenario stated they share tips. I wonder if just the three of them share tips, or all of the employees do? If it’s just them, who ends up losing money and who ends up gaining money from splitting?
I noticed that Ethan, Fran, and Gloria are working at the Dairy Freeze this summer. They share their tips equally among the three of them. One week they collected $114 in tips all together. I wonder if it’s more beneficial for them to share their tips than to just earn them separately? Do they have to share their tips with any of the other employees? Do they all work the same amount of hours per work? Does one employee work harder than another and that’s why they earn better tips? If so, does Ethan not work as hard as the others? Does he deserve the extra money?
