Personalizing the Curriculum
with Technology
Since the textbook defines the curriculum
for most teachers, the adoption of technology encourages them to modify
and replace lessons from their text with more interesting technology based
lessons. In this way, teachers are taking a more active role in modifying,
directing, and personalizing the content of the curriculum.
Favorite Problems & Lessons
In the spirit of sharing good ideas for teaching and learning with
technology, I want to collect and write about your favorite problems &
lessons that seem to get more mileage than others in motivating students
to learn math and become better problem solvers. In particular, I want
to get to the heart of why these problems are effective and reflect on
why that is so. In this issue of Connections we talk about one such
problem and lesson.
The bridge around the earth circumference
problem.
Seymour Papert explains the mystery behind our failure in intuition.
