Demo versions of the commercial software programs Geometer's Sketchpad and Cabri Geometry are available for downloading from Key Curriculum Press and the Math Forum site, and you can then set up your Web browser to use them.

I.

The Geometer's Sketchpad (GSP) - Key Curriculum Press
Sketchpad encourages a process of discovery in which students first visualize and analyze a problem, then make conjectures before attempting a proof.
    Classroom Resources
    Demo version:

   Key's Instructor's Evaluation Edition

II.

Cabri Geometry II - Texas Instruments / French Home Site
A tool for Euclidean, transformation, and analytic geometry.
    Classroom Resources
    Demo versions:
Note: Two versions of the Cabri demo are available. They use different file types, so Cabri II cannot open sketches created with Cabri 1.0. You may want to download both so that you can open both types of sketches.
Cabri Geomètre (1.0) for Mac (351K)
Cabri Geometry II for Mac (710K)

III.

Other Interactive Geometry Programs
C.a.R. - simulates constructions with a pair of compasses and a ruler
Cinderella - Java geometry software in German and English
  DPGraph - 2D and 3D graphing program
Dr Geo - multilingual software for IBM PC
Euklid - Windows shareware in German and English
Euklides - shareware for two-dimensional geometry
GeoGebra - free, multi-platform dynamic mathematics software that joins geometry, algebra, tables, graphing, statistics and calculus
Geometria - standalone Java application in 3D geometry
Geometric Golfer - transformational geometry (Mac)
The Geometric Supposer | Download demo - a lab for inquiry of Euclidean geometry
Geometry Expressions | Download demo - software for interacting with geometric figures numerically and symbolically
Hypothèses/Geométrix - Windows software in French
Isoptikon - an instrument for exact drawing of geometric figures
JavaSketchpad - applet and Sketchpad HTML Converter
KaleidoTile - tilings of the sphere, plane, or hyperbolic space (Mac)
Kali - for creating wallpaper patterns (Mac)
Poly - shareware for exploring and constructing polyhedra
Polyhedron - an application in solid geometry
Struck - for constructing dynamic spatial wireframes (Java)
WinPlot and WinGeom - Rick Parris' freeware (PC)

Setting Up Sketchpad and Cabri II as Helper Applications

You can set up most Web browsers to use helper applications so that when the browser can't open a document itself, it will send it to a helper application. This happens with sounds, pictures, and movies, but you can also set up a browser to use Sketchpad and Cabri to open sketches, scripts, figures, and macros.

Each Web browser uses a different process for defining helper applications, but they all need the same information. Below is the specific information for Sketchpad and Cabri.

Geometer's Sketchpad Settings

You can set up your browser to recognize both sketches and scripts, but you will need to set them up differently since they have different file types.

Mime type SubType Extension File Code

(for sketches) application x-gsp gsp GSPk
(for scripts) application x-gss gss GSPc
You will probably want the action to be "launch application" as well.

For more current information on configuring your web browser to use Sketchpad as a helper application, visit Sketchpad technical support.

Cabri Geometry II Settings

You can set up your browser to recognize both figures and macros, but you will need to set them up differently since they have different file types.

Mime type SubType Extension File Code

(for figures) application x-cabri fig FIGU
(for macros) application x-cabri-macro mac MACR
You will probably want the action to be "launch application" as well.

If you need specific help on how to configure a helper app in your browser, pick the specific brower below. (Yes, this list is a bit out of date, but stick with us!)

If you use a browser that isn't included here and need help using the information provided in the table above, drop Annie a line and we'll see what we can do.
