The Math Forum has been hosting a series of online workshops for teachers who work with students in 5th through 9th grade. Teachers will explore the Math Tools digital library and several software tools that contribute in some way to mathematical understanding, problem solving, reflection and discussion.

Currently the $100 workshop fees are paid for participants by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). All individuals who successfully complete the workshop will receive a certificate indicating that they have completed 15 hours of professional development. This is equivalent to 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that can be received from the Drexel University School of Education for a fee of $25 to cover administrative costs.

Eratosthenes Experiment

This one-day project allows students from all over the globe to calculate the circumference of the Earth by measuring the shadow of the sun, then using that measurement in a simple equation. Students and classes are encouraged to share their results with others by completing an experiment report form:
