Constance Reid, 1918-2010

Constance Reid, a noted biographer of mathematicians, died on
October 14 at the age of 92. She worked as a teacher of English
and journalism before "finding her subject" in her second
career as a writer. Her subjects included David Hilbert,
Richard Courant, Jerzy Neyman, E.T. Bell, and her sister,
Julia Robinson.

AP Calculus and Calculators Survey

Lynda Vincent announced in the discussion thread above a survey
she is doing as part of her doctoral research. Her project
investigates "the relationships among calculator choices in AP
Calculus classes, as well as teacher beliefs that inform the
decision about which calculator to use."

Service, Teaching, and Research (STaR)

The STaR workshop is a one-week summer session designed to
provide opportunities for mathematics educators to focus on
Service, Teaching, and Research (STaR). All those with a
doctorate in mathematics education, in their first or second
year as a higher education faculty member (mathematics
department or college/school of education) are eligible to
participate.
The workshop will be held July 17-22, 2011 in conjunction with
the Park City Mathematics Institute (PCMI) in Park City, UT.

The application deadline is December 1, 2010. If you have

This workshop is part of a conference series funded by the
National Science Foundation (NSF).
