MULTICULTURAL MATH FAIR

An annual event at the Frisbie Middle School in Rialto,
California, whose student population is 52% Hispanic and
30% African-American.
In 1993-1994 Frisbie's Math Department initiated a
Multicultural Math Fair, using as a resource Addison
Wesley's "Multiculturalism in Mathematics, Science and
Technology: Readings and Activities."
Included in these Math Fair pages are directions in
English and Spanish, worksheets to print out, and links
to software that can be downloaded on the Web.
The ten activities range from NAVAJO BURNTWATER DESIGNS,
CONSTRUCTING A PYRAMID, and TOWERS OF HANOI to CHINESE
TANGRAM PUZZLES and MAYAN MATH. In addition, you'll find:
- How to set up a math fair
- Student comments
- Photos of Frisbie students at the Fair

links to sites that can enrich multicultural studies.

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN PRACTICE

The Fall 1996 issue of "The ERIC Review" presented
information concerning the inclusion of children with
disabilities in general education classes. From it
we've assembled a set of Web resources devoted to this
subject and to special education generally, featuring:
- links to national and regional organizations
focusing on issues of education and awareness,
systemic reform, and legal rights
- resources for parents
- materials relating to specific disabilities
