What makes us passionate about math education?

This week, we released a playlist of math education leaders
speaking about their passion for the field:

    - Brian Lawler: Mathematics Education in the Standards Era
    - Cathy Seeley: Walking the Walk
    - Dan Meyer: Math Curriculum Makeover
    - Nick Jackiw: The Dynamics of Dynamic Geometry
    - Nora Ramirez: Disequilibrium Is a Sign of New Learning
    - Patrick Callahan: A Model Proposal
    - Sherry Fraser: If You Can Do Math, You Can Do Anything
    - Steve Leinwand: DiTCoQuA: An Acronym for Our Times

INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING AND FAVORITE REASONING PROBLEMS

                  notices/201706/rnoti-p570.pdf

Curious about the state of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) today?
The current issue of Notices of the American Mathematical
Society (AMS) includes an overview of this active,
student-centered pedagogy. The freely accessible "Doceamus"
article describes examples from calculus and
comparing fractions before concluding with resources for
getting started with IBL in your classroom.

Co-author Dana C. Ernst is an associate professor in the
Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Northern Arizona
University. On Tuesday, Ernst blogged sixteen of his
undergraduates' favorite "multistep problems that require
 almost zero background knowledge":
