In "Scaling the Teaching Curve," middle school and high school teachers do mathematics, think about teaching, and share in professional development activities. Weekend workshops are coming to these cities: - Chicago, Illinois - Tampa, Florida - Washington, D.C. - Seattle/Tacoma, Washington - San Francisco, California - Denver, Colorado - Minneapolis, Minnesota To deepen your understanding of rigid motions, dilations, and other plane geometry transformations, participate in the online course "Geometry Transformed!" http://mathforum.org/pcmi/outreach/#two -|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|- DATA VIZ PROJECT http://datavizproject.com/ How many different ways can you represent a single fraction fact? Where have architects brought waterfall plots to life? And what are Marimekko charts? The Data Viz Project has the answers, searchable and sortable by shape, input, function, and family, each with real-world examples. Since launching this project a few weeks ago, Danish infographic and data visualization agency ferdio has expanded the collection to more than 150 types of charts, diagrams, plots, and tables. -|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|- GRANTS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND AWARDS http://www.nctm.org/Grants/ Apply now for these grants, scholarships, and awards from the Mathematics Education Trust (MET): - 7-12 Classroom Research Grants - Connecting Mathematics to Other Subject Areas Grants (9-12) - Designing Innovative Lessons and Activities for Mathematics Teaching (Kâ8) - Emerging Teacher-Leaders in Elementary School Mathematics Grants - Engaging Students in Learning Mathematics Grant (6-8) - Equity in Mathematics Grants (6-12) - Fostering Support of Mathematics Learning in Multilingual Classrooms (Pre-K-12) - Future Leader Initial NCTM Annual Meeting Attendance Awards - Improving Students' Understanding of Geometry Grants - Mathematics Course Work Scholarships for Grades Pre-K-5 Teachers - Mathematics Graduate Course Work Scholarships for Grades 6-8 Teachers - Mathematics Graduate Course Work Scholarships for Grades 9â12 Teachers - Pre-K-6 Classroom Research Grants - Prospective Teacher NCTM Annual Conference Attendance Award - Teacher Professional Development Grants (6-8) - Teacher Professional Development Grants (9-12) - Teacher-Leader Professional Learning Grant (Pre-K-12) - Using Music to Teach Mathematics Grants Deadlines for all the opportunities listed above fall in November, with the earliest applications due Friday, November 3.
