GAMES is the University of Alberta's research group for
Game-playing, Analytical methods, Minimax search and
Empirical Studies. It produces high-performance, real-time
programs for strategic game-playing. They employ a variety of
techniques from many areas of computer science, including
artificial intelligence, parallel processing, and algorithm
analysis. Their primary goals are improvements in empirical
performance, and applications to broader domains.
Available games online include:
- Amazons - Awari
- Checkers - Chess
- Domineering - Go
- Hex - Lines of Action

THE AWARI ORACLE
http://awari.cs.vu.nl/
Dutch computer scientists from Amsterdam's Vrije
Universiteit developed a program that computes the best move
and eventual outcome for all 889,063,398,406 positions that
can possibly occur in a game. With their applet, play a game
against a potentially infallible opponent, and look up the
eventual score of every position that can be reached in a
game.

AMERICA ROCKETRY CHALLENGE
http://www.RocketContest.org
In honor of the 2003 Centennial of Flight, Aerospace
Industries Association (AIA) and the National Association
of Rocketry (NAR) are sponsoring the first national model
rocket competition for U.S. high school students. The
challenge is to design, build, and fly a model rocket
carrying two raw eggs to exactly 1500 feet.
A grand prize pool of $59,000 in cash and savings bonds will
be shared by the top five teams. In addition, the top ten
teams will compete for three $2500 grants to design, build
and launch an advanced rocket with the NASA Marshall Space
Flight Center. Each of the top 25 teams will be invited to
send one of their teachers to an advanced NASA rocketry
workshop.
The deadline to enter the contest is November 15, 2002.

INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE WITH EDUCATORS FROM ACROSS THE STATE
http://www.ideas.wisconsin.edu/
As a portal site, IDEAS provides educators a starting point
in their search for educational materials. Although the
resources have been aligned to the Wisconsin State Academic
