VARNELLE'S PRIMARY MATH - INTRODUCTION TO ALGEBRA
http://mathforum.org/varnelle/kalg.html
A unit by Varnelle Moore, designed to guide young children
(K-2) through an introduction to algebra. Children learn to
sort, classify, and order attribute blocks by size, number,
and other properties.
- What's My Attribute?
- What's Next?
- Patterns
- Algebra Ideas
- Next in Line
Each lesson includes an interactive, manipulative-based
project, an activity incorporating technology, paper/pencil
practice, and literature connections. The Java applet
Attribute Blocks was written by Joel Duffin at Utah State
University and tailored specifically for this unit.

WORKING WITH PARENTS AND THE PUBLIC
BUILDING SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL MATHEMATICS
http://mec-math.org/events/detail.asp?RecordID=17
The Mathematics Education Collaborative (MEC) is sponsoring
a national dissemination conference featuring Ruth Parker,
the MEC CEO, May 13-15, 2004, in Arlington, Virginia.
Teachers and leaders of successful mathematics programs will
learn how to help parents recognize and support quality
mathematics programs.
The sessions include:
- From Number Relationships to Basic Facts: Addition and
Subtraction in the Primary Grades
- Encouraging Mathematical Thinkers: The Basics and More
- Multiplication: Helping Children with Basic Facts
- Fractions in Grades 3 through 6: Developing
Understanding Over Time
- How to Help Your Child with Math at Home
- More Ideas for Helping Your Child with Math at Home

ONLINE MATH TESTS HOME PAGE
http://mathonline.missouri.edu/
Elias Saab, Professor of Mathematics at the University of
Missouri at Columbia, is in the process of establishing
several online mathematics practice, learning and evaluation
drills for college bound students.
This site has online testing and evaluation components for
- College Algebra Readiness
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
- Calculus Readiness
The tests provide immediate feedback to correct and
incorrect answers, and detailed solutions for all the
problems. If you take the same multiple-choice or
single-answer test more than once, you may vary the
parameters of its questions, getting different versions of
the same problems as before. Students can try two or more
drills to try to improve their score. Such evaluation
provides a tool for schools and teachers to assess their
students' readiness in mathematics before coming to college.
