I. Student Recognition
Names of students who have answered problems correctly will appear on our Web site, and the most creative solutions will be highlighted.
At the end of the school year (end of May) certificates/prizes will be
awarded in such categories as:
- grade level
- homeschooled
- individuals
- small groups
- schoolwide participation
The number and types of prizes will be based on overall participation in the project. Winners will be determined through a tally of points earned for submitting correct solutions.
II. How to Submit a Solution
You may submit a solution to the Elementary Problem of the Week by filling out the
submission form on the current
problem page.
Students must be careful always to use the same name when submitting their answers. For example, if Jennifer Jones answers one week using her full name, another week using Jen Jones, and a third week as Jenny Jones, she will NOT be credited with the three entries. Three different people will have credit for one answer each.
The same problem will occur if a school name is entered using different wordings. Teachers should decide exactly how the school name should be entered and instruct students.
Errors can be corrected by sending mail to: webmaster@mathforum.org
III. Timeline
The project begins its third year the week of September 8, 1997. The last problem will be posted the week of May 18, 1998. We hope these dates will help you in your planning.
Problems will be posted Sunday night. Whenever possible, a preview of the next problem will be posted on Thursday so that students can have the weekend to work on it. Problems will be
posted at:
The deadline for responses will be the Monday following the ending date for the problem,
i.e. answers for the September 8-12 problem will be accepted until
September 15.
IV. Online Registration
In the past you had to register for this program; however, to
simplify the process you will now be registered automatically when you submit an answer.
