The Math Forum Enhanced Tools
for Financial Literacy
July 27-30, 2010

The institute was a collaborative effort among mathematics teachers, financial literacy experts, and mathematics education experts to explore the following:

• using problem solving to integrate financial literacy into the mathematics classroom
• the math relevant to financial literacy and how it aligns to the core mathematics curriculum
• the interconnectedness between mathematical thinking and financial behavior
• organizing financial literacy resources into a catalog structure useful to mathematics teachers
• building and sustaining an online community that supports financial literacy and mathematics education
• supporting and encouraging participants' long-term engagement in The Math Forum Enhanced Tools for Financial Literacy

Participants will also shape the Forum's future professional development opportunities by creating an outline for a workshop that the Forum will subsequently offer free online to those interested in integrating financial literacy in their math classrooms. Further, Institute participants may go on to facilitate the Online Financial Literacy Professional Development Workshop.
