During summer vacation, several Swarthmore instructors decided to sail away. Before leaving on their trip, they examined the rope ladder which hung from the side of the boat.The rungs were 1/2 foot apart (they agreed never to use metric on vacation). At high tide 8 rungs were exposed. On that day, the tidal range was only 2 feet.
How many rungs were exposed at low tide?
