We began our project by discussing how math played an important part in quilting . Books were made available for students to peruse. Children, sixth graders, designed their own quilt blocks on graph paper. They were allowed to use triangles, rectangles and squares. We discussed the importance of chosing the right colors to enhance their quilt blocks.Children made templates by copying those in the books. They then chose their fabrics and cut the fabric from the templates.. With the help of a parent we sewd the patches together to form individual blocks. When all eight blocks were completed I sewed them together wqith sashinh and border to form a quilt top. I quilted the top and this week we presented the project to the school. Each child made a 12 inch square and the finished wall hanging is 60 inches by 30 inches.
