For those interested, here's a copy of 2 different emails just received on
subject to share the info:
#1>>Take a look at "1996 AMS-IMS-MAA Annual Survey (First Report)" in
the December 1996 issue of Notices of the American Mathematical
Society. Last year, there were 1153 doctorates in mathematics,
of which 57% went to non-US citizens. From what I've read, the proportion
of non US citizens is similar in most other areas of science and
engineering. >>
#2 >> - - mailed to physics grad students whose names were given to AIP by
their physics departments
- 13,000 surveys mailed: 6,800 responses. The graduate physics student:-
45% of grad. phys. students are not U.S. citizens<<
