Hi Herman, your comment to mine<<Most graduate programs would collapse without foreign students. All schools with which I am familiar make a real effort to bring in American students, recognizing that they will be at least behind the foreign ones. Often they need to spend most of a year making up deficiencies in basic undergraduate courses; they have not even been exposed to the material. This is more the rule than the exception these days. And there are not that many applicants in the first place.>> I am getting email confirming your point. Here's one short example from Ohio State U. concerning why such high % foreign students vs. citizens in math & science disciplines<<part of that reason is that many of them appear more qualified on the entrance applications>>
