What about Seifert and Threlfall's "Lehrbuch Der Topologie"? It first
appeared in 1934. Incidentally, Seifert's official advisor was van der
Waerden, who had published his on textbook of algebra not long before.
Seifert worked with van der Waerden at Leipzig since 1930, but at the
same time continued to cooperate with Threlfall and eventually the two
published their book. So, it is interesting that the two early textbooks
of these two central branches of modern, structural mathematics had much
in common. I wonder if there are some original documents, say letters
between VDW and Seifert, about this matter.
