Many high school graduates, taking traditional math, in California take
the minimum of three years of college prep math and go into the
California State University system and cannot pass the Entry Level
Exam. This ELM test is predominately algebra. This has been the result
ever since the ELM test was implemented in the early 80's.
We are anticipating data in a couple of years on how the integrated math
students do on the ELM. Before we knock CORE Plus, we have to remember
that programs such as CORE Plus were developed to deal with the issue
such as the CSU ELM.
