Our school does allow students to double up and take Algebra II and Geometry at the same time. They are supposed to take the honors version of each course so they are really prepared for Calculus. They would do this their sophomore year after taking Algebra I as a freshman. This was used only for those not in the honors algebra I program in the 8th grade. We have a couple of feeder schools which do not have alg I for 8th graders. It worked very well for the one or two super gifted students, but terribly for just anyone whose parents wanted them to be advanced. Our school is 2600 students I would say at max there are 3 students each year who fall in this category.(mainly because most of the feeder schools have alg i in 8th grade). I think it is better for the student to take one honors version of each course each year and take calc in college. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Barbara * Bjornstad * * _ * * * * _ / \ * * / \ | | * | | | | ( ) * \ \_| | /\/\ * \_| | / \/\ \/\/\/\/\| |/Sierra Vista,\/\/\ | | Arizona ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ barbbj@primenet.com .........................
