Posting private e-mail may be healthy (though I can't imagine why), interesting (no doubt), ethical, etc. etc. but it goes against netiquette and is therefore rude. Another case - all caps. All caps is neither unhealthy, boring, or unethical, etc. etc. - it's generally considered rude. What is rude? When general mores of etiquette are ignored. Or here's an example that's off the 'net: Cleaning out your nose in public using a finger is also healthy, interesting, and maybe even ethical -- but people generally don't do it out of politeness.
I bet I'll be sorry I got into this... I think I hate education newsgroups. I'd almost rather that I didn't know what other educators were thinking!
