Dan is on to something very basic and probably essentially correct. If anyone believes that too much t.v., radio, music, etc. has made students more passive over the past 10 to 20 years then those technological "marvels" may have had this effect precisely because they are brain deadening and encourage passiveness.
Is there not a danger that too much technology, replacing learing of basic concepts (be they in math or other subjects) might kill the desire/ability of a student to understand the "product" of the answers given by computers/calcultors, etc.
