Jack,
You are right it is a real world problem. Good crafts people of all
kinds need a solid base in geometry and trig and always have. One of
the problems is that most crafts people are not college bound and
therefore do not usually get algebra, geometry, or trigonometry. Some
of the older trade books used to have the function tables by
logarithms.
