This is a huge thank you to everyone who has shared in the discussion of
the calendar.

Your comments have served two purposes. My students first of all have be
shown that educated minds find even the questions of a child interesting
enough to respond to. (The kids have been amazed at the number of
responses) and Secondly, a charged up interest in researching the topic of
calendars.

Before teaching to the standards I could never have justified taking the
time to follow up on this line of interest. I would have been too busy
assigning the next page of calculations and the 7 or 8 worksheets that went
with it.

Well, needless to say, we will be spending time not only on large numbers,
but also on methods to record time, and some of the other great suggestions
given on this list.
