I am currently in a French engineering school. It is actually one of the best, if not the best :) To enter this school, there are written and oral exams, the level of which is quite high. But I come from a math section, and my exams were rather mathoriented, and now we do not do maths any more. They say it is only a tool... And now I am bound to forget all the interesting stuff about prime numbers, Tchebycheff polynoms (sorry for the mistakes) and noneuclidian geometry :( Other students who come from a physics section do not have this level in maths, and do not need it. And I now have to learn things they already know.
I think studying math has given me something that an engineer may lack, but it is not the opinion of my school. As a result, I have to look at sci.maths and fr.sci.maths to find interesting problems so that my brain does not get bored.
