Hi, I have been using the TERC curriculum in third grade for the past five years. As a teacher in Delaware, my students take a State Assessment. This assessment is scored using a rubric, so that is what I use in order to score my students. This is my general math rubric, it has some shades of gray. 4 Full Accomplishment The student completes the assignment/task correctly without teacher assistance and the strategy is clearly communicated using pictures, numbers, or words.
3 Substantial Accomplishment The student completes the assignment/task correctly with some teacher assistance or completes most of it correctly without teacher assistance and the strategy is clearly communicated, or the student completes the assignment/task correctly without teacher assistance and the strategy is not fully communicated.
2 Partial Accomplishment The student has difficulty completing the assignment/task with teacher assistance and the strategy is vague.
1 Little Accomplishment The student does not complete the assignment/task correctly, but gives some evidence that he/she has engaged in the problem.
My students score themselves and each other using this rubric. How Did I Do With My Math?
4 I answered the question(s) correctly. I explained my strategy completely using pictures, number, or words. I did not need any help from the teacher to do my work.
3 I answered most of the question(s) correctly and showed my strategy using pictures, numbers, or words without any help from the teacher. or I answered the question(s) correctly without any help from the teacher, but my strategy was not easy to follow. or I answered the question(s) correctly and showed my strategy using pictures, numbers, or words with help from the teacher.
2 I did not understand how to find the answer for most of the question(s) and/or show my strategy using pictures, numbers, or words. I needed a lot of help from the teacher.
1 I was not able to answer the question(s) correctly and/or show my strategy using pictures, numbers, or words. I needed a lot of help from the teacher.
This works well for me and for my students.
