Is your district's current standardized test rigidly timed with many, many stand alone computations so that speed is the most important factor? Or, are there relatively few stand alone computation items in an untimed test so that a correct answer with an explanation of how it was obtained is more important than speed? If it is the latter stick with the Investigations program - your students are certainly able to figure out and explain computations since they tend to understand the mathematics behind them. However, if it is the former, then the test does not reflect what you are teaching since it is testing rote memorization instead of understanding. Stick with the Investigations program anyway but see if the district will look toward using a standardized test (like the New Standards Reference Exam or the Integrated Performance Assessment System) where what you teach and what is tested is a much closer match.
