Our state, Illinois, suggests that we start to teach probability in first grade. After reading research we know that the students are not cognitavely ready for probability until about fifth grade. We do state testing in third grade and there are many probability questions on the test. We also have purchased Marilyn Burns. We do not focus much instruction on this, but do prepare the students for the test. Family Math also has some games that are helpful. Mary Ellen Krueger
