I have found out quite clearly who does and who does not have number sense in my classroom using investigations. I have been playing games with my students such as, the digits game and getting to zero. When we first began playing, I was really fascinated by the children who ue of a number is. I guess I just assumed that they would know this by fifth grade. These games have allowed them to really sharpen those skills and they have become better the more we play. They have really gotten into these games and ask to play them during indoor recess and when they have finished their other assignments. This, of course, makes me feel good because they are learning. I like the fact that they are having fun while learning and are not seeing this as more boring math. I have found this to be a refreshing change from the previous curriculum I was using. I am seeing this transfer into other parts of the subject areas and seeing the confidence of my students increase.
