My students hate TERC, every day when it's math time they groan and complain. I asked them what they liked about math in the past and they said: 1. "flash card games" 2. "games like 'Around the World'"
Neither of the above seem that compatible with TERC. Additionally, I don't want to encourage competition.
Any tips on making TERC more "gamelike" in a positive way.
I'm currently doing "Mathematical Thinking in Grades 5" and "Building on Numbers you Know" neither of which incorporates a lot of games nor much use of manipulatives.
They're also frustrated that they can't use the old algorithems they learned last year. I'm wondering if the problem will be alleviated after a few years when TERC isn't so new to the school.
