James,
Our district began our parent piece in the same manner as yours.
Congratulations on the wonderful turnout! We followed the
introductory math night with grade-level specific workshops which
focused on computation strategies, as that is the area which is most
confusing and frustrating for parents. The parents actively solved
math problems the way their children are learning and looked at
examples of student work which demonstrate various computation
strategies. The workshops were a big hit, and the parents are asking
for more, more, more!
