After my second year at kindergarten, as I was cleaning up my room for
the summer, I got a box ( the kind copy paper comes in with a nice
lid) for each Investigations unit and put the book, the assessment
pieces, folders with copies of Student sheets, and specific
manipulatives for each unit,literature selections, as well as game
pieces. The boxes store nicely in a storage closet in my room. I
write on the outside of the box the name of the book and its number
(Mathematical Thinking is #1 and so on)
About a week before I start a new book, I go through the box, make
sure I have everything ready and available. On the inside cover of the
box, I have a list of the literature books I need to request from the
librarian (books I don't own myself).
When I finish up the book, I make sure to run copies of anything I used
so the box is ready for next year.
This system has worked well for me. The math manipulatives that are
used for several books are stored in bins in the room (pattern blocks,
color tiles, geo-blocks, counting teddies, etc). I hope this helps.
I would be interested in hearing what others do to
organize the materials.
