I agree that more emphasis on an historical timeline should
be incorporated into the standard, so that students gain an
appreciation for how successive generations build on, or
depart from, the ideas of their predecessors.

Furthermore, this chronological approach should be used to
embed mathematics in a broader context, so that students
better appreciate the web of ideas which binds us together,
even across many generations.
