The issue of genetic algorithms came up in another list (comp.ai.life)
with a (for some contributors) disturbing result: if you use computers to
simulate evolution in any way, you employ a Creationist model. Algorithms
don't write themselves, and even random number generators must be
instructed how to turn out the digits. Combined with the fact that, in
computer simulations, Lamarckian inheritance is perfectly possible, and
even desirable in some cases, it seems that traditional evolutionary
models might not find computers a congenial home.
