In the Greek language, either we say the square of x, since it
represents a square of side length x, or x squared, and also as
well x to the second power.
Of course x to the 2 is a quick way of expressing this statement.
Similarly we say x cubed or the cube of x, i.e. a cube of edge x,
and x cubed similarly used as well as x to the 3 simply instead
of x to the third power.
