I think it was Reagan who said the main job of government was national defense, and then in 'A Nation At Risk' we identified the education system as highly vulnerable (a greater threat to national security than the entire undefended Canadian border as I recall).
Ergo, the main job of government (providing security, defending our civil liberties) is not getting done, ergo what now? We should go for the guns?
