Speaking of nuttiness, you do seem to forget that math-teach is a public forum, and that every post is read by several hundred people, at least. This is to say that the discussion is, and certainly should be, about general issues---at least statewide issues if not national and international issues.
Imagine my surprise, therefore, to learn that you took my "whining" comment personally. The entire subject of this thread is about the cri de coeur of educationists, all over the country and for many years, over their putative "vast underfunding". And to further make their case, teachers complain relentlessly about the difficulties of their job. I guess you would have to be a tad less self-centered to imagine how other people might feel about that, people whose jobs not only are considerably less pleasant, but also less rewarding in every sense including financial. To these people, "whining" is the kindest characterization of the incessant complaining of teachers (especially as it comes from their unions).
