I agree with Wayne's comment that knowing how to
follow an algebraic line of reasoning, as to why
these integer operations square root algorithm
works, should be standard, even among my gnu math
students. That doesn't let 'em off the hook from
doing it in source code too though.

Fortunately, many of the websites where this
algorithm is described also do a pretty good job
of giving the algebraic reasoning. It's all there
as a package.
