In Greece, we use a district wide professional development day for scoring grade 3-8 ELA in February and another district pd day for 3-8 Math in March. Grade 3-5 classroom and special education teachers score the 3-5 tests and grade 6-12 math teachers score the 6-8 tests. We score about 6000 tests in one day. Teachers not scoring have professional development workshops those days. While scoring has good pd opportunities (in math, the dialogue about student work is often rich and we process patterns we see in the work and plan subsequent instruction). The downside is that the 3-5 teachers miss other pd opportunities on both those days. Tom Mariano Greece Central School District Rochester, NY

The AIS and 7th grade teacher grade the 7th grade test. For the 8th grade test we add in the 8th grade teacher too.
So our 8th grade teacher who also teaches Algebra only loses one class day.

I?d like to know how teachers of Regents Algebra 1 to 8th graders are getting the time to grade the recent NYS 8th Grade Math Assessment. In particular, are you (they) being taken out of your (their) Algebra 1 classrooms one or more days to do that grading or is some other grading process being used. Thanks for your responses.
