RE: HELP - Regents in Gym or Classrooms

I absolutely hate the gym as a testing site. It is very difficult to settle the students down when they enter such a large space. Clearing calculators is a nightmare and the proctor situation is awful because the adults tend to stand together in a huddle and some adults don't think about the shoes they wear into the gym for this assignment. If someone is wearing shoes with hard soles, it is extremely noisy and distracting. The gym always seems to be either cold or hot and there is no good way to regulate the heat. I had read an article (I don't remember what publication it was in.) that stated the best testing site was a familiar space. We moved all math regents exams into classrooms and the students scores improved. We are a very large district and I needed 33 rooms for Math A and B last year. Distributing classroom sets of calculators was done by teams of math teachers after the proctors arrived. This system has worked well for us. Terry Rice Cicero-N. Syracuse High School

Hello Everyone: =20 I'm going to try and talk my adminstrators into allowing my department administer the Regents in the gym or cafeteria as classrooms are a logistical nightmare and we have teachers from other departments proctor the exams and they are challenging to work with to say the least. I'd love to hear from as many people as possible who tried both and like the gym/cafeteria setting better and why.=20 =20 Thanks everyone, =20 Bill =20 William C.
