Division has precedence over addition. Even if it didn't,
associativity would be left to right unless specified otherwise.

Let "some other number" be X.

(X / 2) + 1 = 2

Subtract one from both sides.

X / 2 = 2 - 1

X / 2 = 1

X = 2

QED
