You appear to be accessing sci.math via a web-based interface (mathforum). That interface probably has no filtering options.
If you want to use killfiles and other filters, you should use a newsclient (i.e., an nntp client) and find a decent news server (I use eternalseptember.org, which is a good free news server). Web interfaces tend to be *much* more limited.
