Anne, the problem is that Sketchpad produces the line notation only when the line is defined by two points. That's the case for the first line, AB, but not for the second, which is defined as a line parallel to AB and passing through point C. Point D depends on the line rather than defining it, and there could be many other such points.
To name this line in the the way you want in , you'd need to change the name of the line from j to CD. This name won't have the line symbol, but you can add that in the caption by selecting the CD and formatting it with an overbar.
