We move students on to the second year on a case by case basis. If a student fails the first year based on attendance or maybe transferring into our school late in the year with low transfer grades, et cetera then we may keep them in the first year again. If a student failed because of attitude, they usually get pushed on for the reason of not mixing that student in with the incoming ninth graders.
