*Regents Examination Dates for 2011-2012*

*NEW**! NYSED's Call for Feedback on Draft PreK Learning Standards *
The Board of Regents would like your feedback on the final draft of the New York State PreK Learning Standards, which will be presented for discussion and adoption at their January 2011 meeting. As someone invested in the education of young children, your professional opinion is important to the finalization of this project. The New York State PreKindergarten Learning Standards are arranged in five developmental domains: Approaches to Learning; Physical Development and Health; Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; and Cognition and Knowledge of the World. Each domain identifies clearly the benchmarks that children should meet during their prekindergarten experience and performance indicators that can be observed as children meet these benchmarks. A survey is posted on the Universal PreK website, http://www.p12.nysed.gov/upk , for you to share your comments and recommendations. Moody's Mega Math (M3) Challenge is an Internet-based, applied math contest for high school juniors and seniors. Participating teams are required to solve an open-ended, applied math-modeling problem focused on a real-world issue in 14 hours. Now in its sixth year, the competition is open to high schools in 18 states along the East Coast. Winners receive scholarships totaling $100,000 toward the pursuit of higher education. Registration and participation are free. The goal of the Challenge is to introduce applied mathematics to students as a powerful problem-solving tool, as a viable and exciting profession, and as a vital contributor to advances in an increasingly technical society.
