Several years ago I wrote a Green-Globs-ish game called DONUTS for
the TI-83/84, but until now I never got around to posting it online.
Today I put it on my BlackBoard site to share.

If you don't know Green Globs, it's an old computer game (maybe still
available?) in which a bunch of "globs" are drawn on an x-y grid, and
the student's job is to the make equations that touch as many globs as

It can be used at any level from y=mx+b through precalc. It's good for
review (of lines, parabolas, other functions, transformations), it's
entertaining, and it tends to provoke problem-solving and interesting
questions: Can I make a make a horizontal line? ... Can I make a
vertical line? (No, but how about a very steep one -- how can we make
that work?) ... Can I make a sideways parabola? (No, not a
function) ... Can I get a parabola to hit these 6 points? )Maybe, if
you flip it upside down, shift it 3 left, shift it up 2, and stretch
by a factor of ...).

You don't need a BlackBoard account to access my DONUTS game. Follow
these steps:

(1) Go to
(2) Click on "View Course Catalog"
(3) Click on "Susquehanna Valley Central School"
(4) Navigate to page 2, then click on "sv.eromer.06-07"
Search for a course whose ID contains "romer",
then click on "sv.eromer.06-07"
(5) Click on the green "TI Programs" link
(6) Click on the file ""

Note: This is the first time I have tried posting programs online, so
I'm not sure I know what I'm doing. Let me know if you have problems

It's written in TI-BASIC (it's not an App), so it's not as polished as
an App, but I think it's well done.
