this question originally showed up in philosophy books saying that Socrates was trying to prove to Menos that people are born with innate knowledge. He asked a slave boy to show him how a square that twice the square of a 2x2 square. The boy knew nothing of geometry, but solved it, using Socrates guidance of asking him questions how to come to the answer.
