My husband is an engineer and he also teaches engineering courses and he thinks it is ridiculous how we stress using the entire calculator ( all six decimals in our answer). As Tkenyon stated, in the real world people round and the measuring instruments are not accurate to 5 or 6 decimals!
But I guess that is the difference between a math teacher and an engineer.
