what I said, still applies; just as in ordinary celestial mechanics, because the electrons really do have classical properties in the analogy of "orbitals," the closest approx. to "free electrons" would be those, that might have a hyperbolic "fly-by" orbital, although it is more likely to be just a whole bunch of "shells" that are just further & further from the nucleus, which are never explicitly labeled, as for the "ground state" ones.
